Climate change and Advocacy

Our climate justice, rights awareness and leadership education programs aim to promote climate resilience and social justice. We offer training on climate-smart agriculture, gender equality, GBV prevention, financial literacy and leadership skills. Our program also includes the promotion of community-led advocacy campaigns for social change.

Climate Justice and Resilience
The "Masindi Women Fruit Tree Growing and Beekeeping Project" has demonstrated notable success in its initial phases. As of July 2025, the project has facilitated the distribution of over 2000 fruit tree seedlings (including mango, avocado, and citrus varieties) to 200 women-headed households in Pakayi sub-county in Masindi District. This initiative aims to diversify household incomes and improve nutritional intake. Furthermore, the project has established 50 beehives for 25 women's groups, with training in modern beekeeping techniques. Preliminary reports indicate an average increase of 40% in household income for participating women due to fruit sales and honey production within the last 10 months. The project also reports a 95% survival rate for planted fruit trees, attributed to extensive training in climate-smart agriculture.

Additionally, the "Masindi Youth and Women's Agroforestry and Rural Entrepreneurship Project" (MYWARE), whose overall goal is to achieve an economically empowered, climate-resilient, and self-reliant community of 200 youth and women small-scale farmers through climate-smart agriculture, fruit tree growing, and financial literacy in rural Masindi district, Uganda, has increased food security by 50% at the household level and improved crop selection, planting, and harvesting.

Rights Awareness and Leadership Education

At Star Health Improvement and Livelihood Development Program, we believe that everyone has the right to live a life free from discrimination and injustice. Our rights awareness and leadership education program aims to promote climate and social justice in communities.

We offer training on climate and social rights, gender equality, and leadership skills. Our program also includes the promotion of community-led advocacy campaigns for social change. We work with community leaders, women's groups, and youth groups to empower them to become agents of change in their communities.

Through our program, we have seen an increase in awareness of social rights and gender equality in the communities we serve. We have also seen an increase in the participation of women and youth in community decision-making processes.

One success story is the case of Mrs. Fatima, a community leader in a rural community. Through our program, she received training on leadership skills and social rights. She was able to use this knowledge to advocate for the construction of a health clinic in her community, which had previously lacked access to basic health services. Her advocacy efforts were successful, and the health clinic was constructed, providing access to essential health services for her community.
