Women Economic Empowerment
Our household development model avails financial inclusion, nutrition and food security programmes which provide support to communities to improve their access to nutritious food and promote sustainable agriculture. We offer training on modern farming techniques, seed and fertiliser distribution, and access to markets for farmers to sell their produce. Our food security program also includes the provision of food aid during periods of drought or conflict.
Financial Inclusion
The "Masindi Women and Youth Financial Inclusion and Rural Climate Resilience Project (MFIRCEP)" has made substantial progress in empowering its target beneficiaries. As of August 2025, the project has facilitated the formation of 10 new Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) with a total membership of 110 women. In terms of climate resilience, MFIRCEP has trained 110 women and youth in climate-smart agricultural practices, including drought-resistant crop varieties, water harvesting techniques, and sustainable land management. A recent impact assessment indicates a reduction in crop losses due to climate-related shocks by an average of 10% among trained beneficiaries compared to non-participants. Additionally, 110 women gained knowledge in quality parenting. Over 70 women engaged in play and learn activities, creating strong bonds with their children. Food security increased by 40% at the household level, enabling over 200 children to thrive. 70 women adopted better crop selection at the household level. Household income increased by 40%. 95 caregivers' children went back to pre-primary school, and 200 children registered better weight and height for nutrition.
Nutrition and Food Security
At STAR Health Improvement and Livelihood Development Program, we believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right. Our nutrition and food security program aims to improve food security and promote sustainable agriculture in communities.
We provide training on modern farming techniques, seed and fertilizer distribution, and access to markets for farmers to sell their produce. We also offer support for small-scale livestock production and fish farming.
During periods of drought or conflict, we provide food aid to vulnerable households. We also work with communities to establish community gardens, which provide an alternative source of food during times of food insecurity.
Our program has had a significant impact on the communities we serve. We have seen an increase in household income due to improved crop yields and access to markets. We have also seen a reduction in malnutrition rates, particularly among children under five years of age. One success story is the case of Mrs. Amina, a farmer in a rural community. Through our program, she received training on modern farming techniques and access to high-quality seeds and fertilizers. As a result, her crop yields increased, and she was able to sell her produce at a higher price in the market. With the increased income, she was able to send her children to school and improve their nutrition.
You can support our financial inclusion, nutrition and food security programs by donating or volunteering with us. Together, we can create a world where everyone has access to nutritious food.
